Connection and installation

The Teltonika FMP100 is suited to recording trips and monitoring the location of personal and company cars. The device plugs into the cigarette lighter socket: no interior disassembly or connection to the car’s wiring is required.

The tracker can be taken out and moved to another car in a few seconds. It stays in plain view and is easy to remove — keep that in mind if you need concealed installation.

If you need help plugging it in, visit our workshop in Peetri — we’ll help free of charge.

Operation while driving and when parked

While driving, the tracker records the route and speed and sends data at short intervals. You can follow the car on the map almost in real time. How often the position updates depends on the device settings and mobile coverage.

While parked, operation depends on power to the cigarette lighter socket. In some cars it stays on after the ignition is switched off; in others it cuts out immediately or after a while.

If power stays on, the tracker keeps working. With our standard settings, it sends data once an hour while parked. This interval can be changed if needed.

If power is cut, the device may keep running for a while on the built-in backup battery. Once that runs down, data transmission stops and the last reported location stays on the map. The backup battery is not designed for long-term monitoring of a parked car.

If you need continuous monitoring of a parked car and the cigarette lighter socket switches off with the ignition, we will help you choose a tracker with constant power.

To send data, the FMP100 uses the 2G mobile network. The device’s operation depends on 2G coverage.

When mobile coverage is temporarily unavailable, the tracker stores the recorded data in its internal memory and sends it once the connection is restored.

Power and the car battery

While running from the cigarette lighter, the tracker takes power from the car and charges the built-in backup battery.

If the cigarette lighter socket stays live while the car is parked, the device keeps drawing power from the car battery. When the car is parked for long periods, this can contribute to the battery running down, especially if it is worn or not fully charged.

If the car is rarely used, let us know when you order. We will choose power-saving settings and increase the reporting interval while parked — for example, so that the tracker sends data once a day. This reduces power consumption but does not eliminate it completely.

The cigarette lighter socket will be occupied by the tracker. To charge a phone, the casing has a USB-A port with a 5 V / 1 A output.

What you can do in the tracking system

In your account, you can:

  • see the car’s location, address and speed on the map;
  • view trip history for the last two years;
  • generate trip and mileage reports and download them in Excel format;
  • set up email alerts for leaving a set area, exceeding a set speed limit, and other events supported by the system.

You can use the system in a web browser or in the Android and iPhone apps. All your cars are available in one account.
